As of 2018, Pioneer is the newest lift at Monarch, opened in 1999.Like all lifts here, it has the drive and tensioning at the bottom terminal. Many of the towers are quite tall to cross over the Garfield double.Lower station with integrated sheaves.Riding over Garfield.Combo assemblies on tower 7.Riding up the upper section.Arriving at the return terminal. This station model is called the Orion.Another view of the return bullwheel.View down the lift line.Another section of the line.Lift line seen from the upper parking lot.
From the map, I’m guessing Pioneer is what you take for the KC Cutoff and Sleepy Hollow, but you can also access everything from Tango through Gunbarrel by following the lift line back down to Roundabout. The blacks from Kanonen through Christmas Tree are exclusive to the Garfield lift.
Pioneer is largely superfluous except on weekends because one can, as you mention, get to everything from Garfield. I almost never ride this lift. It does make things on the far southern edge of the area more easily accessible but I don’t mind the skate from Garfield.
