I know this lift was installed pre-Alterra and the creation of the Ikon Pass, but it is now apparent that it was incredibly shortsighted to install a fixed-grip here instead of a detachable lift. Summit draws big crowds of people wishing to ski upper mountain terrain, and while the pod here does not go quite as high, a detachable lift would likely siphon off some skiers.

it must be getting crowded recently, as far as I am aware its never been crowded compared to the other lifts. I doubt the capacity could increase on that ridge much more. Most complaints I hear are about the speed, I dont think its long enough to warrant that.

There may be a misunderstanding here, as my point is that Summit is overcrowded while Powderhorn is relatively underused. Installing a detachable lift at Powderhorn would likely better disperse the crowds between the two pods.
