Patrol use it for standard access. It’s 15-20 minutes straight uphill if you hike like the rest of us, and we aren’t carrying anything other than skis or a backpack.
As to why they don’t let the public up, gotta earn your turns.
Before everybody got soft & psycho litigious even East coasters had a pretty steep one (T-Bar) by East Coast standards … at Cannon Mountain….. On The runs that lift accessed for me was born my true Love and Lifelong obsession.

I think T bars are absolutely fantastic opening up enormous amounts of terrain for very low cost & serve to keep many people from winding up in terrain, as chairs unload so many people in, where they shouldn’t be & are more likely to have problems in or get hurt on. Kirkwood comes to mind they did some wonderful things with their terrain using T bars. The Culture & terrain at Bridger seems PERFECTLY SUITED for their addition as Bozeman continues to grow so rapidly🤞
Was that Cannon T-bar one of the Upper T-Bars? All of the older T-bar lines at Cannon are shallow(er), with the exception of the metal Mittersill T-bar. The Valar T-Bar is also somewhat steep. I have had some nasty falls on that thing. Honestly, Cannon should have kept one of the Upper T-Bars in case of wind hold. Additionally, it would be quite a sight, especially if the one they kept was the 1958 T. Does anyone know where those T-bars went after their 1989 removal?
That’s probably just the old patrol-only nutcracker rope tow that was removed in 2001. It followed a slightly different alignment and may have been used for the downhill race course.
No, that line designates when you pass into the avalanche transceiver required area. The Secret lift starts at the patrol shack near the top of Bridger lift and run parallel to the main bootpack hike to the top of the ridge.

Possibly because of the steepness on the lift line? I assume many people riding a platter with a grade like that would constantly fall.

Whistler Blackcomb has some steep t-bars that are open to the public.

I think Patrol just uses it for emergency access to the ridge and to conduct avalanche control.

The reason why it isn’t open to the public is because the top unload area didn’t pass inspection

This lift is also a pulse platter with 2 sets of 4 on opposite ends.
