It’s kind of sad as it was one of the original lifts when installed on Andesite in 1973, and it was installed used then. However, I understand that at nearly 50 years old, it’s time was up.
Explorer is the last remaining original lift and will likely be replaced in 2019 or 2020 by the first stage of the gondola.
The lift that came from Copper was old F Lift that was removed in Spring of ‘89. Couldn’t have been installed in ‘73. My recollection is they bought the lift, cut the hangers and grips off of the bubble chairs ( and left the bubbles behind) and were going to re-engineer the lift to be a triple at Big Sky.
You’re thinking of Dakota. It was reinstalled as Southern Comfort in 1991 and removed when that went detachable in 2004 it sat for 3 years before being reinstalled in it’s current location in 2007.
There was a lift on the Ramcharger alignment right from 1973 called the Andesite double. The other 3 original lifts were Gondola 1 (removed 2008), Lone Peak Triple (removed 2016), and Explorer (still in service). Big Sky’s first of many terrain expansions since the original build was a Riblet where Thunderwolf is now called Mad Wolf.
Andesite was originally built at Big Sky the second year the resort was opened. The name later changed to Ramshead before being relocated to Shedhorn. F lift from Copper would end up being the first Southern Comfort, with Big Sky keeping the hangers and making triple chairs from a double.

It wasn’t even installed new on Andesite in 1973, it came lightly used from an area in Colorado (Winter Park?)

….which explains why we have an old F-lift bubble chair in our warehouse with no hanger. Always wondered.
