The Southwest Flyer improved access on the backside of the mountain with a new alignment and higher top terminal compared with a previous Riblet double known at Chair 6.The new lift was supposed to be the first of a multi lift expansion on the backside which was never completed.Upper part of the lift line.Middle section of the line.Combo assemblies. The return terminal.Maze area.Large grip maintenance bay.Lower terminal overview.Unlike most detachable terminals, there is only one mast. This was the first lift built by Leitner Lifts USA; only three more were completed before operations were combined into Poma of America. The grip bay.A Leitner tower.View back down near the summit. The drive terminal, also with just one leg.Unloading ramp.Tower 18 and the top terminal.Lift line overview.Leitner Report entry.
On Angel Fire´s trail map, the run nitro on the backside is extremely straight, almost like a lift line, and also reaches a point above lift served terrain. Could that possibly be where one of the other planned lifts was supposed to be?
If I made the master plan. I would extend southwest flyer to the bottom of the new terrain. Then add a second detachable to the top of the new terrain (to the left of c-4) and make some more runs and extend some of the southwest runs.
The Quickdraw and kicking horse and grandby ranch, and the green mountain flyer at jay peak. There was also a Borvig/Lietner detachable somewhere, though i forget exactly where.
The only Borvig/Leitner HSQ that I know of was the Spirit Express at Spirit Mountain, Minnesota. It had a separate Borvig drive station located at the bottom of the hill behind the loading station. Towers were Borvig and I think the sheaves are as well. The original chairs were Leitner bubble chairs, there’s a whole story on the chairs, check out the comments section on that lift.
The old Borvig drive station and return stations have now been replaced with newer Leitner-Poma models along with new chairs. The towers are still there. I do apologize if I got any of this info wrong.
I do agree, the Leitner Plan de Gralba terminal was much more nice than the Dopp or Poma stuff. The Automatic terminal (this lift) is also quite nice (roomy on the inside).

yes. A profile was done. Other priorities came up. The skiing is pretty good there with a short hike.

I’d run a high speed quad directly from the bottom of Southwest Flyer up to the top of the Nitro trail, and a fixed grip quad on the Lift 6 alignment.

How many “pure” Leitner and Borvig-Leitner lifts exist in the USA? Further, how many are detachables?
