This chair has an interesting tower cap. Anyone know of others that are the same?

Riblet built several of these in the 80s but none that I’ve seen have lifting gantries.

Where did this lift come from? It was installed sometime in the late ’90s.

After doing an extensive search on liftblog and skilifts.org, I believe this chair may have originated at Angel Fire Ski Resort in New Mexico as Lift 5, removed in 1996 (which is when this chair went in). Lift 5 at Angel Fire was built in 1979. I’m not sure if Riblet was still producing this chair design by 1979, but everything else about that lift matches up nicely with this lift.

It must have come from somewhere else, Lift 5 at angel fire had different terminal and tower designs:

Some pictures of the original motor room:

Skiingbc.info lists the Sundance chair as being installed by Mad River Lifts. After doing a few Google searches, it appears the company is no longer in business. Even through scanning their website through archive.org, I cannot find any indication of where this lift might have come from. My best guess is that this chair is many separate Riblets put together?

Why did they change the motor room design and make it a larger building?

Those motor rooms were super cramped inside. I imagine they wanted a bit more space. Old chair 5 at Baker was like this original motor room, and though I’m a fairly small human I could hardly get around inside.

I finally confirmed where this lift came from.

Sundance is a Superior Tramway build, pieced together from multiple lifts. The drive and return came from Mt. Hood. The tower heads came from Alyeska. In the first few years of operation, this lift was operated as a double chair before being converted to a triple.

Looking at the removed Mt. Hood lifts, it seems likely that the terminals could have come from the former Texas chair. At least the top terminal seems to match up with Sundance:

The lift definitely came from Texas at MHM. Bottom terminal matches up completely. I still wonder where the triple chairs came from. Maybe Angel Fire?
