Was the old lift worth the ride? Just kidding, but seriously the old Stadeli lasted much longer than anybody thought it would, and clearly it was time to replace it.
Also Peter I believe this lift was named the “Sunny D” quad instead of Sunshine like the old lift.
This lift could be considered the odd one out on Mount Ellen, since it’s the only Doppelmayr on this side of the mountain (Slide Brook, as a transit lift, doesn’t count). All the other lifts on Mount Ellen are from Poma.
Yes, it always feels weird coming from Lincoln to Ellen and riding all of the Pomas. I would make the argument though that Slide Brook is more of an Ellen lift. The way that Les Otten designed Slide Brook was more centered around Mt. Ellen. The drive terminal is also at Mt. Ellen and Ellen usually gets the longer lines.
Well, at I got to ride the old Stadeli and record it before it was removed

Oh my bad. I must have heard somebody call it Sunny D and since then I thought that that was going to be the new Sunshine’s name.
