This was a temporary lift built just for the Olympics to transport spectators to the Downhill finish line. It was relocated to Sunshine Village after the games.

I think they could’ve kept the lift and made a nice learning area at Creekside base.

I agree. I think that would be good for beginners, and to have a learning area at Creekside, since it is a totally separate village.

Unfortuntely, they they would have had to remove it eventually, due to the construction of the new creekside gondola and future races going down that run.

this lift was not in the way of any races as the finish area was above the top station. The issue non can any be held in the future since the new creekside gondola has been built, with towers in in different places to the old lift, such that are spill zones / middle of runs for the race runs. Basically without earthwork and tree clearing, it would be impossible to ever run a speed race to the olympic finish ever again.

Why was this lift a detachable? If it was a temporary lift used only to transport spectators I don’t see why they made it detachable.

It was partly because it was a joint purchase between Sunshine and Whistler. Sunshine wanted a detachable for their Strawberry replacement (The old triple chair went to Kelowna Mountain, BC). I imagine for the amount of money Vancouver spent on their 2010 Olympics, they were more than happy to agree on a detachable quad.

this lift was for foot traffic. If it was a fixed grip, it would’ve had to run at a snail’s pace of 200 fpm.

I think it would have been cool for them to keep this lift. I don’t really know much about whistler, having not been there, but I’m a fan of transport chairlifts.
