Three chairlifts used to serve this hill, now it’s only this one.

the worst maintained lift currently operating in the Summit today. Breaks down literally almost every season.

The off-kilter counterweight has been a huge problem for it. It causes the bottom motor room and bull wheel to slightly angle to the right on days with large temp fulgurations resulting in excessive wear on fan and combo towers. Should be replaced next summer.

Unless something has gone seriously wrong with the counterweight setup, it shouldn’t affect the alignment on the line. I worked on a lift with this exact counterweight arrangement, and the only issues with it were those induced by us mechanics when we were either repositioning the counterweight or detensioning the lift. During normal operations the motor room/carriage assembly should not affect anything. The counterweight rope reeving and endpoints were designed with this in mind. I’d be curious to know where you heard this.

Anyone know why it has five breakover towers? Seems excessive?

Just Riblet’s 4 sheave per side of rope per tower maximum of that time; line pitch change plus load equalled 20 sheaves. Check out Blue at Meadows for another impressive fan, and Ariel at Mt A for a slightly different but still very Riblety fan.

Peter, You should move the lift to the removed part of the chart. I went to Snoqualmie today, nothing left but the towers & top & bottom terminals

was up at the summit and looking up from the gas station it appears the breakover & top station have been demoed. i assume the remaining towers are staying up for lights?

last summer driving to pasco and everything but the towers were demoed, now it’s pretty much only a few towers for lighting, like the Alpine lift at Central in ’98.
