Those are some weird looking riblet chairs.

It should be noted that this is the former Naked Lady from Snowmass and it indeed a unique Riblet lift.

Riblet 5000 Series, only a few were built. This was made into a very small lift for how large all the machinery is. At Snowmass it was 7,190 feet long.

The T bar was that this lift replaced was removed in 1994. The lift installed in 2008 is significantly longer.

I was at Lutsen on Saturday, March 21, 2020. This was a beautiful, sunny day with great groomers and the bump skiing was fantastic too! Once again, the Lutsen staff team did an outstanding job of giving us a fantastic ski experience even with the current Covid-19 situation. There was much appropriate and polite social distancing going on and it seemed to me that the appropriate health precautions were in place, given the pandemic. I missed our often seenThunder Bay, Canada friends this trip but I think it couldn’t be helped given the recent US/Canada border closing. I mention this simply because I want our Canada friends to know that they were very much missed and I always enjoy the conversations and sharing great Lutsen skiing with them!

Thanks Lutsen staff for your great efforts! My family and I look forward to seeing you again in better times.

I was skiing here this past week and lapped this chair a lot. The time it takes from bottom to top was usually around 4:10-4:20.

This is such a awesome lift, hope it never gets replaced. Lapping on this lift is such a pleasure as you don’t have to wait in line at bridge and ride all the way back up.

    • I was very surprised to see it is getting yanked out this spring. It’s a great lift with a short ride time. Provides quick out-of-base access and good upper intermediate fast laps. And if the new six ever has any operational issues, there’s no other lift on Eagle (though of course 10th doesn’t offer return access from Moose). I’m bummed.

The Bridge lift will stay standing for summer operations per Lutsen staff. I assume if the six ever has issues they’ll be able to load Bridge again.

They are planning on storing this lift for possible future use when asked about chair sales. From my understanding there is still a ton of inventory on site for this lift from when it came used. It would be a good replacement for Ullr, otherwise I do not really see where they would put something that old in the rest of the future expansion. Maybe it will fit in somewhere at Snowriver. The old Caribou and Eagle lifts are also still onsite as well.

There’s a proposed beginner triple on Moose as part of the expansion that they could move this to. I don’t know where Eagle Mt or Caribou could be relocated to at any of the three resorts.

From what I’ve seen and heard over the spring and summer of 2024 they emptied out there stockpile of old lifts like the old Caribou, Eagle, and pieces left of the old Gondola, Bull Run, and 10th mountain lifts.

Yeah, I had later heard that too that they decided against re-purposing any of those lifts. Does make sense all of those are 40+ years old, and were already repurposed to Lutsen from other areas.

It’s sad to see those old lifts get scraped, especially since 10th was a rarer riblet 5000 series, but on to bigger and better things.

Coloradoskichairs has 10th Mountain Chairs listed for sale. There are a few photos on the website of the disassembled chairs in gray paint; maybe these are surplus chairs still in their Snowmass paint that were never used by Lutsen? Skiliftdesigns has Yan chairs from Lutsen for sale. There must have been a large quantity of these chairs in the boneyard…the two lifts on Moose Mountain were quite long.

When I went up to the bone yard there were piles of unused chairs from caribou, 10th mtn and eagle. they were much longer in there other locations so it makes sense.

Was there some need to remove this lift to make room for the Raptor Express? Also, is there any truth to the rumor that this lift might be moving to Snowriver in Michigan? Heck, replacing the Ullr double with this lift would have made sense.

Yes, if you look on Lutsen’s webcam you can see the top terminals are in the exact same spot. I’ve heard the rumor about it going to Snowriver too, but I’m not sure if there’s any truth to it.

Raptor unload was originally planned to land between 10th and Bridge, they later decided that 10th really wasn’t needed, felt there would be two much congestion at the top, and that the 10th unload was the best spot for access to all the runs on Eagle. Moving 10th to Snowriver was on the table, but I’ve heard they may just be scrapping it now. Yes they sold some Chairs but there were tons of extras in the boneyard too. Seems to be a common theme that older lifts get taken down and stored for repurpose and then when in comes down to questioning the future reliability and the cost of transporting, reengineering, and updating the lifts just end up getting scrapped.
