What lifts are getting replaced at Ober Mountain ?

Looks as though the January 20, 2024 update to the 2024 project list now contains Pleasant Mountain 4CLD “hand-me-down” from Sunday River former Barker. I do not see a formal announcement at PleasantMountain Resort or Boyne corporate websites. Is this project now Boyne confirmed and funded? And if so, will the work be done by Boyne or perhaps Dopplemeyer?
Most recent email pertaining to the multi-week https://liftblog.com/summit-express-shawnee-peak-me/ Summit Triple outage:
“Summit Lift returns to full capacity
Hi David,
We are pleased to share that we will be running the Summit Chairlift at full capacity starting, Saturday, January 20.
We will no longer be running the shuttle to the East Lodge. However, we will continue to run the Sunnyside Triple Friday to Monday for the remainder of the season (weather permitting).
We are so thankful for everyone’s patience and understanding as our team has worked diligently on this lift issue.
Hope to see you on the hill
Sincerely
Ralph Lewis / General Manager”

I hope it does soon. It’s pretty old and slow, and they could throw in a high speed quad to the top of west with a midstation where the easy unload is.

Is Deer Valley’s bubble 6 still on track?
Will it be open to the public next season? What is the alignment?

I’ve been told 3-5 Expanded Excellence lifts will be built this summer and the rest next summer. They aren’t promising any early openings before 25-26 but it would not surprise me. The Hyatt opens December ’24 and those guests would probably appreciate not having to take a bus.

I believe the Mighty Argo Cable Car is a go. Every time I drive through Idaho Springs, I see a cut alignment scaling the hill. There is a black trailer at the base of the cut, and maybe even some parts in the trees behind?

Hopefully. The cut has been there for a couple years now.

Will the new Seattle Ridge lift be the only UNI-G with direct drive? Feel like thats uncommon.
LikeLike
I don’t think Doppelmayr offers Direct Drives on UNI-G models.
LikeLike
There’s actually a direct drive gondola in South Korea that uses UNI-G terminals.
LikeLike
Well thats what Peter has it listed as.
LikeLike
Thredbo ski resort in Australia has a UNI-G called Merritt’s Gondola and it has a direct drive, the top drive station has a UNI-G enclosure over the direct drive while the mid and lower stations look similar to the Park City Quicksilver Gondola mid, so if that’s possible then there’s a very good chance Seattle Ridge 6 could have one too.

Southern California. 2 hours East of LA. There are three separate mountains that are all owned by Alterra: Bear Mountain, Snow summit and Snow Valley. They are all medium sized ski resorts, each having at least 1 detachable. The plan is for Bear mountain and snow summit to expand into each other creating 1 big ski resort.

On the northern flank of the San Bernardino Range, one of SoCal’s Transverse Ranges. Just north of San Gorgonio, which, according to Summit Post, a somewhat informed compendium of things mountainous, is at about eleven and a half grand, and is the tallest peak in all of the Transverse Ranges. It’s about 45ish miles (30ish for Snow Valley) from San Bernardino proper, on a windy af road over which LA tourists famously fail at driving.

It looks like Segundo replacement at Sunlight is postponed again, is USFS not approving the project or are there other reasons?
LikeLike
It was approved on July 10, 2023. My understanding is Sunlight could not find anyone to do the installation.

Why can’t they just self install it?
LikeLike
I think their maintenance team is two or maybe three people, and none of them are licensed to fly a helicopter

First Sunlight cuts the lift line for East Ridge Chair…then postpones it. Then buys A-Basins lift to replace Segundo, then postpones it for a year only to put it off yet another year. I’m thinking money issues are the reason.

Any new news about the big bear project? It was supposed to be approved by last week and the big bear website has nothing on it. My theory is that they are keeping quiet so they don’t have to deal with protesters. As frustrating as it is not knowing the details I think it best for them to keep quiet so they don’t have to deal with all the drama like dodger gondola did. I’m just curious if they are doing the whole interconnect and proposed lift A or something else. Everybody feel free to reply if you have any info. Thanks! ;)

Drove by Bear Mountain today and all the chairs have been removed from lift 2, along with some tarping of the bottom terminal. I think they’re going to replace 2 and 5 with a single lift.
There’s no activity in the forest between Bear and Summit, so I doubt the interconnect is going to happen this year. Too much clearing to do at this point.

makes sense. Maybe next year

Hey have you seen any progress on this, i live 2 hours away but this is still my home resort. Really want to know if it is finally happening.

From the live cams, I can say that they are removing chairs 2 and 5 and likely replacing them with a CLD-4 or CLD-6. While I doubt the expansion will happen this year, I think the new chair is huge because it will move the Terrain Park people away from Bear Mountain Express which has some of the best long groomers in SoCal. I do find it odd that they are not public saying anything about this. We know it is happening because or the live cams and the fact that they already bought a detachable and are hiring people to install it.

For those of you who might want to watch close up, the building of a quad chairlift, the Alpine Ski Club in Collingwood Ont has their webcam camera pointed directly at the bottom the new Arrowhead chair, now under construction.. I believe the camera gets turned slightly during ski season to better show more ski slope conditions, but right now you get clear, images of the chair build, pointed at the bottom return station relatively close up. Search for Alpine Ski Club Youtube and you will find it. Most days , this season, the camera is live.

I wish more ski areas would do this. For us ski lift nerds summer season projects are still interesting. The marketing departments haven’t realized that yet.
Bear Mountain in Southern California looks to be installing a new chair this summer. You can see things happening on the webcam but there hasn’t been any announcements. Thy should point a webcam right at the construction and give a weekly blog update on the progress. They could post a weekly construction update photo on their social media.

While Deer Valley has certainly made great progress on the terminals for Neptune and Galena, it would be very unlikely that either of them would be ready for this winter. Galena only has a few towers flown in, I would only assume the same for Neptune. That being said, I would assume work will continue on the remaining lifts at Deer Valley East for this winter but I heavily doubt Neptune and Galena will be ready to open this winter.

They flew the rest of the towers yesterday for both of them. Word on the street has been that they want to open at least 4 lifts this season. My bet is at least one of them opens this season, but maybe not at the same time as the 3 on the map.

Hey Peter, just to let you know, Gore’s new lift is called the “Hudson Chair” not the Hudson Express. Here’s a picture of the name on the terminal.

And it seems like they stuck with the cheaper Omega chairs to match the other detachable lifts. However, if they build a 6 pack, they might use the newer and more expensive LPA Chairs
