Burke is in a pretty bad spot. At the moment, there are no interested parties in buying the mountain because it is not profitable, and the government cannot keep operating it forever. Realistically, given its remote location and really low skier visits, any potential investor would need to throw a ton of money at some big project, whether it be real estate or some non-skiing attraction, to bring a lot more people to the mountain.
Burke may also have the fewest skier visits for any mountain with two (or more) detachable lifts. I do not have their exact figures, but I know they are below 100k annually. For some comparison elsewhere in Vermont, Bolton’s numbers are below Bolton Valley and Bromley, who have a combined one detachable lift.

Burke is a fantastic mountain that I highly recommend if the snow is good, especially when it is crowded elsewhere.
