because they make the lift ride feel more secure, and they are more comfortable. I will never really understand why people are unhappy about bars on lifts, just don’t put it down if you don’t like it
I am unhappy when I get hit in the head with one. Which happens surprisingly often given the much discussed fact that almost nobody in the West uses them.
The owners of Mammoth are super cheap and except for shifting chair 5 over like 20+ years ago, and made no upgrades at all to any chairlifts. 8 chairlifts at least- are a total joke and over 50 years ago. Chairs 20, 25, 22, 24 7, 8, 12, 13, 14. Very tacky to be charging what they do for lift tickets, and have 50+ year old dangerous chairlifts
They replaced lift 5 eleven years ago and from what I have seen they have done numerous mechanical upgrades on existing lifts, none of their lifts are any more dangerous than any other resorts lifts. Yes Mammoth mountain has numerous older lifts, I assume the increasingly inconsistent winters they have experienced makes the economics of replacing these lifts difficult, but they do keep them well maintained. Unfortunately lift tickets industry wide have gone the way of the air lines, buy at the window and get raped, buy a packaged pass online ( Ikon, Epic, etc.) ahead of the season for a deal.
look all of the lifts up at these resorts are inspected to the finest detail they are also maintained in the best shape too. IF and I mean IF their was a safety error they would shut the lift down and not operate it. sure they might be around 50 years old but that’s part of the charm of a ski lift or ski resort. YES it is unfortunate that lift tickets have gone up, so has gas prices and rent. that’s just they way of it goes.
May not look true but someone calls this the loneliest chair lifts at mammoth

Yes a very uninformed statement of the lifts being dangerous. Present some evidence and then your statement may be taken seriously.
