One of two lifts on the North Face, Challenger runs most often.Middle section of the lift line.View up the line.Yan tri-leg bottom terminal and tower 1.Side view of the return station.Lift overview.Loading area.Riding up.Arriving at the drive terminal.Unloading area and motor room.
The drive terminal of this lift sports a fairly recent (2011) Green Mountain Control system, but the return terminal still houses the simplistic four button in-house control panels.
BEGGINNERS: If you wanna die do not take this lift. Accesses advanced trails only. Open more then the Outpost Triple. Accesses the best advanced runs in Mt. Snow. You get an amazing view of whatever river or lake is behind. Definitely a very tall mast!
The mechanical challenges here this season once again highlight the need for Vail to really upgrade Challenger/Outpost to a detachable lift (ideally a six).
There are currently plans being tossed around in management to replace one of these lifts with a high speed quad. This is in very early development however, and if it does go through, we’re looking at a 2028 or 2029 instillation date. Mount Snow was notorious for abandoning things like this during the Peak Resorts era however (original sunbrook upgrade, main base reconstruction, etc…), so we unfortunately don’t know how committed Vail is to the idea even in spite of the management shift.
That bottom terminal almost looks as if it’s height adjustable (though it Dosent look like it actually is)
