The first half of this lift is very steep. It was the first lift built on the backside of Kimberley in 1975.Counterweight tensioning. The entire bottom terminal moves along a carriage, including the lift shack! The prime mover is a diesel engine. This half tower was probably added more recently. The chairs are also not original. They are from fellow RCR resort Nakiska and replaced centre pole versions.Tower 12 just before the summit.Fixed bullwheel up top.View down the mellow upper section of the line.View up at Tower 9.Looking down towards the base.Towers 1, 2, 2A and 3.View up from the bottom.Lower terminal with two portal towers.Maze area and drive/tension terminal overview.Loading area.Unload zone.
How is a center pole possible on a triple chair? Or did the old chairs used to be a double. The person in the middle would be hitting their head on the pole.
Dopp’s centre pole chairs had the “pole” mounted underneath the seat and backrest on the same angle the seat was at, making it so there would be no pole in the way when loading. Similar to what Skytrac uses now. https://youtu.be/AkZb0gTeCwc
Doppelmayr built center pole chairs are very rare and The only ones I found is the doubles at snowbird. Never knew they made center pole triples. Skytrac have dual poles in the back of their chairs not just one. Center pole chairs are hard to bump too.
For sure, they seemed to be more common in Europe. Doubles I know of are Snowbird’s, Big White (Falcon), Mt. Hood Meadows (Daisy), Mt. Norquay has them on their Pulse chair and I’m sure theres a few more. The Cut double on Grouse Mountain had them too.
really late here but Alpine at Boyne Mountain, Michigan is a Doppelmayr center pole double. it was relocated from somewhere in 2002, and is one of just three lifts at Boyne with absolutely no plans/rumors for replacement. it also runs alongside three Riblet center pole quads, also pretty rare and really only found in the Midwest. https://liftblog.com/alpine-boyne-mountain-mi/
In addition to Doppy CP doubles, a place in Manitoba called “Minnedosa Ski Valley” has an old CP double. (There are a few images on Google Maps of this lift).
Huh, just found another photo of the Blackstap lift with chairs on it. It appears that some chairs were bail style, and some were CP. This is the only photo I have found of this lift operating, but these chairs look more like Triple versions to me.
I used to ski there when I was very young, and it was definitely a triple chair, and so cold at the top when it was windy. I remember it being a Borvig lift, however my lift knowledge then was a lot less than it is now.
No Borvig lifts in Saskatchewan. I don’t believe Alberta or Manitoba have any Borvigs either. BC has Shames Mountain, which has a Borvig drive on a Mueller lift. Ontario has lots of Borvigs.

Fortress Mountain Alberta also had 2 CP chairlifts (Canadian and Farside), however these may be coming down soon.

Also, Marmot Basin’s defunct Caribou Chair was a CP double. It’s still standing, but in rough shape.

A place in Manitoba called “Minnedosa Ski Valley” has a classic Doppelmayr CP double that’s still operating.
There are a few more defunct ski hills that have had Doppy CP chairs.
Mt. Arrowsmith BC had a CP double that’s dismantled, and looking in rough shape.

Eden Lake AB also had a short Doppy CP chair thats still standing, and can be seen from the highway. (Good footage of the lift at 10:08 on the video)

Blackstrap SK also had a more unique Doppy CP chair. The lift is still standing, but without chairs. (the motor room is very unique on this lift, also notice the portal tower at the beginning of the lift. Similar to the Doppelmayr Triple at Fortress Mtn.)

I’m sure there are more Doppy CP chairs in the US.
