This lift’s really overbuilt, being designed for 2,800 pph even though it only has three runs off of it (and is a nice alternative to the catwalk when traveling from Patrol Headquarters to the Sourdough Express lift to reach Two Elk Lodge).
Not really, you must not visit frequently as I have seen lines there quite a few times. For starters, it is a great way to get beginners to Chair 14 from mid-6 without having to deal with the crowds that can be at 11 or Timberline Catwalk. I also know a lot of folks who will drop to 10 if 11 has long lines.
As of this year, this lift’s terminals, as well as Sourdough’s, are repainted in the darker Vail blue. The lift nameplate is nailed on, no longer painted on the skin.
I feel like Vail could add in a HS6 that would start adjacent to #1 and would continue across the mountainside. It would cross over #6 before having a mid-load station at the bottom of this lift. It would then continue up the lift line of this lift, effectively replacing it. The current lift could then get relocated to become the new Mongolia Express. I feel like this lift would go a long way to add in redundancy from Vail Village.
That sort of describes the Trans Montane lift in the Master Plan, but it does not cut as far over and would not replace highline. Instead Riva Bahn would get replaced and realigned with a second mid station at the current highline bottom terminal before continuing up the same lift line. In that scenario I could certainly see the old #10 equipment being moved to become #23 at Mongolia.
In the current master plan, there is approval for a new lift #23 that would start adjacent to #1 that would run up to where Prima and Trans Montane intersect. Additionally there is approval to replace #6 with a new chair/gondola that would have a second mid station at the current #10 bottom terminal before turning and following that lift line to the top. Hopefully when that happens the old hardware from #10 will be relocated to an alignment in Mongolia replacing the #22 platter

I’ve been at peak times like President’s Day weekend where lines were relatively short at Highline.

Until 2014, the lift had 90 degree loading, something shared in common with the Sourdough Express (which was converted to inline loading in 2010).
After 2014, the lift was converted to inline loading:
