Knob – Marmot Basin, AB

This Doppelmayr quad replaced an older Doppelmayr double but in a new, longer alignment.
The undulating lift line features a number of tall towers with large sheave assemblies.
The old lift remained in place for the new lift’s initial season.
Arriving at the summit, which is a few hundred feet higher than the old lift-served summit of Marmot Basin.

    This practice of installing the new lift, but having the lift it’s replacing be kept in place for the first season, is basically the same thing that 49 Degrees North did with Northern Spirit.

    Having the old double co-exist with the quad does provide some perspective as to how much longer and more vertical the quad has, and how much higher up on Marmot Peak you’re unloading.

      They could have kept it in case the new lift had a mechanical issue, I personaly prefere TriStar better than AlpenStar

      I heard there were wind and geotechnical concerns. I think I also heard it would be difficult to get a novice run down from the summit.

        Maybye because of park regulation as Marmot sits in Jasper National park

    I have thought that one of those bullwheel generators was possible for years, I am glad that someone actually built it!

    Also, these pictures–and the new lift–are utterly stunning.
