just went to HH again today, it seems like this lift NEVER runs, even on weekends. Hunt Hollow just doesn’t ever get the skier traffic where the main triple lift gets overloaded. I assume this only runs when the triple has problems.
I just realized this lift is listed as 600 FPM in the SAM lift installation survey! Wholly cow, “Experts Only” is indeed correct. I thought the only fixed grip lift operating at 600FPM was MRG’s Single Chair, though it rarely runs that fast any more.
My question is this, was the ANSI code different in 1980? Or did they get an exception? In order to have a 600FPM fixed grip installation under the most current ANSI code, it has to either be a single, or have a loading carpet.
Back in the day this lift was skiers only. I dont know why but snowboarders werent allowed on it till later on. Maybe it was easier for skiers to load a chairlift at faster speeds than a snowboarder? This is the 1994 trail map and it says no snowboarders on gad 2 https://skimap.org/data/226/7/1228452469.jpg
Mad river glen also doesn’t allow snowboarding either.
Hah, back in the day no one allowed snowboarding, every lift was skiers only- that changed in the mid 80s through to the late 90s (I was born the first year PCMR allowed snowboarding). No one I’ve asked was able to explain why, but yes you are right no snowboarding on Gad 2, even after the resort opened up to snowboarders. Snowboarding was allowed on Little Cloud, though. Still, this doesn’t explain how they were able to spin this at 600FPM. The oldest ANSI B77 code I could find was from 1999, way after this lift was installed.
An interesting tidbit on MRG, is that they actually allowed snowboarding from 1986-1991. They ended it because snowboarders kept deroping the single chair.
Did the lift sell?

Yes it did. Chairs were auctioned off, the lift itself went to some small mountain in New York, I can’t find which one on Google right now.
