Who was the last customer to order the Doppelmayr-style catwalks instead of the CTEC-style ones? Haven’t seen those on a new lift in a few years now – Beaver Creek might be the last one to have these

    Why did they get porches?

    What is with the footrests?

The footrests are wonderful. I rode this lift several times this winter. The footrests are little winglets, triangular tabs, positioned “just so”, such that you can rest each ski on a tab. I don’t have any problem with a conventional footrest. But, these tabs or winglets are an elegant solution less cumbersome solution to the footrest question.

They’re great for regular skis, but they don’t work to terribly well for powder/fat skis, and are useless for snowboards.

Poma had something kinda like that in the 80s, and there are some quads that still have those old-style footrests, like the High Lonesome Express and Gent’s Ridge.

I know I’ve commented this in other places, but I’ve had no issues with wider skis on them. My dailies are 107 underfoot, and I have a pair that’s 114 underfoot I bring out sometimes, and I actually find these easier than a traditional footrest with the fat skis. Usually I can only get both on crossing or leaning the outside foot, neither of which is great for the ski. That said, I’ve seen the boards struggle with them, I feel their pain.

This is the default style. All new lifts in Europe now have it, and usually the close and open automatically as well. I think the reason is that by having the attachement between the lecks it prevents children from falling out of the lift much better than the traditional style.

Some Doppelmayr lifts have automatic open and close for the bar, but this one does not.

I went to Tremblant 7 times this season, so I got to ride this lift more than any of the other 2018 installs. I can say that it’s a major improvement over the triple. Despite the annoying foot rest design it’s a lot more comfortable, and the ride time is almost always under 4 minutes. The triple took 8-9 minutes because of stops and slow downs. My only complaint besides the foot rests is that the operating speed is totally hit or miss. Sometimes it will run at 4.8-4.9 m/s and other days it won’t even run at 4 m/s for seemingly no reason. All their other lifts tend to operate around the same speed every day.

As far as the affect on wait times, it has noticeably reduced crowding on Duncan. However, I think it makes Expo have longer wait times than it did before since more people are using the Expo-Lowell Thomas route than before. LTE itself seems to be one of the less crowded lifts by Tremblant standards. This makes sense because it serves the least amount of terrain of all their skiable lifts, while having the same capacity. All in all, I think it is a solid upgrade to the guest experience that results in Tremblant operating almost exclusively detachable lifts, but isn’t quite game-changer status.

Honestly I’m fine if this lift doesn’t run at it’s full speed. I’ve tried to lap a detachable of a similar length and slightly higher vertical rise than this one. The lift was running at full speed and I didn’t even have time to fully rest between runs. Its a lot better than a slow fixed grip but I enjoy resting between my runs, so I’ll take the slower speed.
