One of two Garaventa CTEC Stealth III lifts at Mt. Rose. The line hugs the ridge into the Chutes.View back down the lift line.Unload at the summit.Return terminal and breakover towers.Tower 11.Offset half tower.T5.Bottom station with chair parking rail.Drive station.Top return terminal side view.Drive and tower 1.Return seen from Blazing Zephyr.Lift overview.
Between the 2 towers is a ridgeline and it would be diffcult to place a normal tower there. Simpily because the lift rides on the ridgeline. The reason for the half tower is to save steel (Money) for extra sheaves and a larger tower. This lift only runs in one direction so no need to support the downhill side as much as the uphill side.
That is odd, Alpine Meadows got a high speed six to replace their YAN hsq before Squaw got any HSS chairs. Summit Six was built one year after american express, but I think the HSS at Boyne was built in 1990 or 1991.
It does however bring up a question for me, this chair and far east at Squaw Valley were both Garaventa CTEC chairs built in the same year, but far east is a Stealth II and this is a Stealth III. Far east used Garaventa AK-6 grips, this uses Agematic AK-400 grips. Was it a choice you could make at the time?
I thought the AK-400 was a knockoff of the Agamatic grip. Are you sure Far East uses AK-6 grips? I thought I read somewhere that it uses AK-680 grips. I could be wrong.
What’s the reason for the half-tower at tower 8?

What a beautiful lift. Was this one of the first HSS in North America? Very cool to see a half-tower on a HS lift.

the first HSS in north America was at Boyne mountain. I am pretty sure that for the whole Tahoe Basin Squaw Valley got its HSS chairs first.

Yeah and I forgot about American Distress at Stratton.

I thought I read somewhere that the first HSS was in Mont Orignal, Quebec. It was built one year earlier than the one at Boyne.

Shoot I meant the United States.

They officially renamed Northwest Magnum 6 and Blazing Zephyr 6 to just Northwest and Zephyr Express. I find those to be quite boring.

They also repainted all the lifts to match the new Lakeview Express.

This will always be Northwest Magnum for me.
