Riding up one of the longest lifts in Utah.Steep section of the line.Looking back.Breakover towers.Nearing the top.Arriving at the drive station.Garaventa CTEC drive terminal.Upper lift line.Lower lift line.Bottom tension station.Side view of the bottom.Leaving the base.
Hate to say it, but I think Powder Mountain will keep both this and Timberline fixed grip. Powder Mountain doesn’t want to compete with Snowbasin. They’re going for better terrain and preserving powder stashes rather than skier flow. Skier flow has never been a problem at Powder because the mountain is so big and spread out and there are never crowds to begin with. That’s the only way they can compete against Snowbasin. Timberline would probably be replaced by a Skytrac quad for age reasons, but I think this lift has a good 10+ years left.
They don’t have to complete against Snowbasin. They just need to offer reasonable rate lift tickets and keep the mountain groomed and equipment running and people will flock here. It’s really a hidden gem of a mountain, much like Snowbasin was back before the Olympics.
Love skiing the lift but the 18 minute ride on the lift is a bit much. Bring lots of beer! Honestly its great as is though, becasue if it were a high-speed it’d get tracked out.
Maybe it should be high-speed, but have only a few chairs, to keep the same skiers per hour, but to make the ride not so long. Hah
I remember being towed out the ridge by a snowmobile in the 1998-1999 season. We were dropped off where the lift ends but had to ski back to Hidden Lake.
That’s a 400HP motor. About right for a lift of that length. Pretty sure that’s what Becker and Porky over at the Basin have as well, they are slightly longer then this lift but run at 500FPM vs 450 for this one.
Love the lift, but needs to be replaced with an HSQ. They should replace Timberline with this lift and HSQ here.

I think both this and Timberline should become high speed quads.

Quite a lot of steep drops on this one. One of my favorites.

I remember getting towed out once too. Was it the same year? I seem to remember lightning but I was young so maybe I made that up.
