Why does the drive look so much like a alpha drive?

The masts look pretty similar to Leitner masts and the drive box looks like an Poma Alpha.

I am pretty sure that BM lifts used Letiner parts and possibly were even owned by Letiner. Along with that both of these companies and Borvig made a terminal similar to the Alpha ie the Letiner chair at Fernie. The design is also different in many ways the supports are squared off other than that this one is probably one of the closer Alpha copies I have seen.

This isn’t as bad as Montaz-Mautino, a French manufacturer. They completely copied the detachable platter bottom drive terminal that Poma made (and I believe patented).

They had multiple licenses from Poma.

Pierre Mautino helped design the Poma platter.

By now most patents on a detachable platter lift have expired so anyone, in theory, could make one that functions the same.
