I know Pow Mow is pretty devoted to a limited number of lifts and low overall capacity, but it might be time for them to add another lift or two to boost capacity in the face of unprecedented demand and an expanding bed base. Even if they want to leave the advanced/expert terrain alone, improving beginner and intermediate accessibility should be pretty popular. An easy one that stands out to me is a lift from the bottom of Hidden Lake to the top of Sunrise to replace the platter and make that whole pod more accessible and used.
Will: Do a Google or Donald M. Reif airplane. Seems that some guy named Donald Reif also pays close attention to airplanes on Facebook. Is this one and the same?
CHESSNOTCHECKERS. I don’t get your issue with Donald? Maybe theirs a background there, but a lot of us have other things we’re interested in too. I might not agree with Donald on everything but their is no reason for him to be banned. It bugs the hell out of me when someone says ban this person or something of another.
If anyone’s comments are unnecessary and bring nothing to the conversation, it’s yours. I haven’t seen you make a single comment that actually involves lifts, all you really do is flame Donald and attempt to get him banned. If you have issues with Donald, than stop coming to this website.
It’s all speculation of course, but I’d think a better alignment for such a lift (which I agree should be a priority) would start near the base of Hidden Valley as suggested but terminating slightly to the east next to where the Mary’s Lift tops out. This would provide that same lapable low-angle terrain access under/adjacent to the liftline while also facilitating much more convenient access to Cobabe Canyon, the Mary’s Lift pod and the Summit Village itself.
I miss that 17 minute ride through the freezing wind. Back then I could go to PM a week after fresh snow and still find powder in Cobabe or Powder Country. I remember we’d lap Cobabe, 2 laps before lunch and 1 lap after. It was quiet and fun.
Excluding the fact that PowMow limits both season pass sales and day tickets, both Beaver Mountain and Cherry Peak are within a 90 minute drive of Ogden and have zero crowds.
That’s a good point. Though I am someday going to build on some family land in Liberty and Eden so I do hope to get a season pass to Snowbasin and/or Powder.
You’re right Ryan, i’ve lived in Ogden for my entire life. The amount of out of town filthy rich city slickers need to go back from where they came from. Way too many people in Utah now and the amount of town houses and suburbs being built in ogden valley are going off the rails.
You know the new owner has no idea what he’s doing when he prioritizes “Moonbikes” to access new terrain, over having a second high speed lift, or even a new fixed grip expansion pod.
Where is this new Foxtrot lift going? I can’t find any information about its location online. I’m guessing that might be a private lift following a somewhat similar alignment to the Sunrise Poma, providing private access into the village and Cobabe Canyon area? Otherwise, a trip into Cobabe from the main summit involves a ride on Village and Mary’s
The Powder website references some new beginner lift called Doodle as well. They say it was going to be installed near Sundown, but now they’ve decided to put it elsewhere on the mountain. Maybe that’s delayed until next summer? Or is Doodle a new name for the lift previously referred to as Half Pint?
DMI seems like it will be a cool lift serving interesting terrain, though it is primarily south facing so I doubt the snow will be particularly good. The Sundown high speed quad should also be a nice upgrade.
Foxtrot will start near Cobabe Cyn and Star Crossed (trail from top of Raintree) beginner trails and head due South to the top of Mary’s. The terminals, towers, etc have all been delivered and foundations were formed a few weeks ago……concrete most likely poured by now. Doodle is being delayed as Peter mentioned and possibly relocated or re-aligned for a greater beginner experience. My guess is with the higher capacity Sundown lift and new Sundown Lodge concurrently being built, that the realestate footprint in the Sundown area then becomes a challenge to be putting in (2) lifts and a lodge with all new infrastructure.
Thanks for the insight. I see a map on skimap.org from a 2024 master plan that shows a lift along essentially the alignment you described. It makes sense why Foxtrot will be a detachable in that alignment because it looks pretty long.
That map also shows another lift ending at the essentially the same point but starting at the base of Hidden Lake Express. That lift would solve the inefficiency of accessing Cobabe when the Sunrise Poma is removed, so maybe it will be constructed in the next couple of seasons. I’m not sure whether that future lift would be public or private, because unlike the current private lifts it would be right in the middle of the public part of the ski area. I wonder if Doodle will become the third, shorter lift terminating at the same summit as those other two.
I also noticed that the Half Pint liftline beyond the Village lift was already visible in Google Earth satellite imagery from September 2025.
I’ve spent plenty of time at the other Utah resorts but haven’t yet made it to Powder Mountain. Even though their business model kind of rubs me the wrong way, I prefer it to hearing about another ski area gone out of business. It’s also much better than the mountain becoming completely private like a Wasatch Peaks Ranch just down the road. It seems that the recent infrastructure upgrades have made it faster to get around the mountain, and that they’ve done a better job of managing crowding than the other big Utah resorts. I do think Powder Mountain is inching towards a fully private business model because that’s where they make all of their money. I hope to get to ski a couple of good days there in the next few years while the public is still allowed in.

That would probably be a high speed quad about 5,440 feet long.

A question for you Don, are you a skier, or are you just into outlandish lift tech at the major resorts? Both are valid.
