I absolutley love riding this lift, even if it does’nt serve any terrain. Every time I visit Sugarloaf, I have to ride it at least once just because of the iconic feel it gives to the base area.
I’ve always loved riding this lift up through the base area, but in all honesty it makes it much less useful as a beginner lift, as beginners have to navigate through the crowded base area to get back to the Birches slope. (Originally, the lift went up the right side of Birches and ended below the base lodge.)
Like every other Sugarloaf skier, this is my favorite lift as well. :) The ride through the village is just so special!
I do worry about its future. It’s obviously an old lift. Skidway is already there as a beginner lift, Snubber is already there to serve the condos. The mountain could function without it…
On the other hand, as someone who HATES walking with my skis, I love being able to immediately ski down from the lodge or parking lot and using this lift in lieu of having to skate anywhere. And given Boyne’s love of real-estate lifts, I hope that means we’ll have this lift or a replacement for it forever. Long live the Sawduster!
