Looks like this was a top drive at one point, but was converted to bottom drive with the Borvig terminal. It also looks like there was a trail off the top at one point.
There was indeed a trail off the top when this lift opened called Long John. If you look to the right when getting off the top of the lift, you can see it. Given the limited snowfall and extensive snowmaking at the mountain, plus the high number of non-skiers at the resort, they deemed it better utilized exclusively for sightseeing and closed the trail in the 70s or early 80s.
