This lift is the last remaining of two T-Bars which operated in the Blackcomb Glacier zone.Lower part of the line.Upper station overview.Tower 1.View up the track. The lower station with drive system.Upper station with tension system.Crossarms on this lift are wider than normal for glacier adjustment.Lower lift line.Upper lift line.Lift overview.
so i assume the showcase T-Bar don’t open much then? did it open at all this past season? also what do you mean by she doesn’t have much life left in her?
It did open at the end of the season for a couple of months. The glacier is melting out underneath the lift, and our ability to maintain the alignment is being severely compromised.
At least it opened. Also that’s sad that the glacier is melting underneath the lift. From what I understand about what you said, because the glacier is melting, it is making it harder for you guys at Whistler Blackcomb to operate the Showcase T bar safely? How much longer would you give this T bar before it’s compromised completely?
Looks like Whistler Blackcomb is ending summer skiing for the foreseeable future.

”We appreciate your patience as we awaited final confirmation regarding our summer operations. It is with great sadness that we must share the difficult news that Whistler Blackcomb has now decided they can not run operations on the Horstman Glacier for the foreseeable future due to the ongoing effects of glacial recession on snowpack and lift access.
While we started the season with excellent snowfall and had remained optimistic that summer camps could proceed as usual, after further recent assessment, it has been determined that our summer camps in June and July will not be able to run this year.”
Some of the towers are already sitting on rock. (not bolted down) The ones near the top are still on ice at this time. It’s the steepness of the profile that is causing issues. It’s a pretty fluid situation. We may be able to use it this winter. We won’t know until the fall. Also there is the issue of the skier entrance into the Blackcomb Glacier which is getting more challenging.
I heard that the FGQ that’s going to replace this lift is going to have a slightly different alignment. Does anyone know exactly where it’s going to start and end?
I see that the lines are relatively long. It would be helpful to have a fixed grip quad here, but that might be hopes and dreams.

That probably wouldn’t work due to the glacier melting.

Those are pretty old photos of the original alignment when we had a glacier. She doesn’t have much life left.

We are getting engineering done to see if we can run it this winter. After that, who knows.

Showcase and surrounding runs are all black now. Probably result of melting glaciers.

If the glacier under the lift is gone, does that mean a standard lift could be built anchored into rock?
