Mainly for lapping the terrain park and some short blue groomers under it. I would advise that the sunrise blues are much steeper than other blues on the mountain .
it was once much more important. Pre-MCP, the only 2 lifts that weren’t beginner chairs were the Agassiz and Sunset triples. On powder days or even busy weekends, Sunset often meant more laps as the ride time was shorter than Aggasiz, there was rarely a line, and it went just high enough to access some of the more fun terrain on the more northern face of the mountain. It also served as the only real access from Hart Prairie lodge to the upper mountain.
That has all been negated with the Humphreys quad, GCX, and the gondola. Especially GCX, which essentially turned Sunset into the lesser option to lap its own terrain pod.
So it’s really just a leftover from the decades when it served a bigger role. I’d wager it’s in MCP’s sights as their master plan showed something like a 50-100 acre expansion and new lift/parking/mini base to the south of current Sunset. Wouldn’t be shocked to see it removed and/or replaced in the process.

This is the last remaining original lift at the Snowbowl.

Not quite. Aspen is the original Agassiz (installed in 1961 as Agassiz and relocated in 1986 to become Aspen)

Not quite. The original 1961 Agassiz was a Riblet double.
And, both the Sunset and the Agassiz #2 were both in simultaneous operation until 2020 when Agassiz was replaced with the Chondola.
