Honestly it just seems dumb to get rid of a name that sorta ties in with the whole Native American theme of the resort and replace it with a pretty boring, uninteresting, unoriginal name. Just my opinion.
“Honestly it just seems dumb to get rid of a name that sorta ties in with the whole Native American theme of the resort and replace it with a pretty boring, uninteresting, unoriginal name. I could only assume so. Given the time seemingly put into the new name for Superchief, I am expecting a new name along the lines of “Belleayre Slow Quad” or “Belleayre Normal Speed Lift”
My impression of the “Superchief” name was that (1) it didn’t sound legitimately Native American in the first place, and (2) the lift was broken down extremely often, sometime for days at a time, and it brought traffic to the rest of the resort to a standstill. It was a disgrace to any sub-chiefs in the area. Personally I prefer the lifts to be named practically and the trails to be named descriptively.
Yeah I see your point, although I doubt that any local Native Americans were personally insulted by Superchief’s unreliability, who knows. If they wanted to stray away from the Native theme and leave that to the trails, I personally think they could have made the name change come off better by making it a tad bit more detailed, they probably could have dug up the name of one of the resort’s founders back in the ’40s and went “[Last name] Express”. It’s a common theme among resorts replacing “Offensive” names to often rush and use generic, sometimes unfitting names. Eskimo at Winter Park is a good example of this, the resort rushed and ended up naming an expert lift “Explorer”, which is a common name for beginner lifts at other resorts.
never seen a garaventa chair on doppelmayr grips. really cool!

I think that’s the exact problem. Politically correct. Same reason Alterra is removing their indigenous names.

I think that’s the whole point, as the resorts seem to be moving away from those themes.

I am guessing that means Tomahawk’s days under its current name are numbered.
