TGV – Tremblant, QC

The TGV quad is a play on words, a nod to the high speed trains in France. The lift can go up to 1,100 feet per minute.
Poma top terminal.
View down the middle part of the line.
Looking up at tower 8.
T6.
The lower terminal and tower 1.
This terminal was partially rebuilt after a 2014 fire.

Leaving the drive terminal.
Riding up the line.
View back down from near the summit.
Approaching the top terminal.

Isn’t it Télésiège à grande vitesse?

When the fire happened in 2014, they had to replace the motor, and since it was an unscheduled retrofit, they could only use what was immediately available. The new motor can’t spin the lift as fast as the original, so the top speed is now only 1000 feet per minute.

rip. Wonder if they’ll get a new motor and gearbox. On second thought, 1000 fpm vs 1100fpm isn’t a big difference, so probably not.

Tremblant got lucky, Marble mountain in Newfoundland lost a return terminal from the same generation lift to a lightning caused fire in the early summer, and Tremblant lost the drive terminal to a fire in the late fall. The unburnt drive terminal was down but yet to be shipped so it was sent to Tremblant instead of GJ, so the lift could be quickly rebuilt. The two burnt terminals from Marble and Tremblant where shipped to GJ to be remanufactured (used at Powderhorn). The lift at Marble got new LPA terminals, chairs and grips. Not sure if the terminal from Marble was remotored when installed at tremblant, but it was probably only designed for 1000fpm.

I stand corrected by a friend, they only took components from the Marble terminal not the entire terminal.

Some pics of the bottom terminal fire (sorry not the best quality, but the best I could find that shows all the damage)

Fun fact — these lifts (TGV/Expo) are the most recent POMA (or Leitner-POMA) detachable installations in the entire province of Quebec. Shows how extensive Doppelmayr’s market share is here.

Hey guys. Can anyone tell me why there is an abandoned tower right as you go through Mi-Chemin and what life it was part of? It’s on the left side and it looks like it was part of a quad. There are actually 2 towers. The cable seems to be tied down to something on the ground. Thank you to whoever can help.

Probably coming from old TGV quad and used by ski patrol for evacuation simulation

Definitely looks like it, given where the towers are. Not the first example I’ve seen of an old lift being repurposed like that. Breck did something similar to Lift D when the Beaver Run SuperChair was built to replace it.

Winter Park also used Outrigger as an evac training area for a couple years between its abandonment and its reinstallation as Eagle Wind.

OMG, this is why I found this blog. I’m wondering the same thing. I just saw it and it has a chairlift or two on it, along with a gondola cab that has a snowboard on the outside, I’m so confused. If it’s for storage, why not just keep them on the ground?

Maybe a patrol evac training area?
