The future of this lift is uncertain. When the Westside Six was first announced, it was said that this lift would “remain in operation for both summer and winter”. More recently, the resort has said that “it remained in place summer 2018 to serve Windham Mountain Bike Park and will likely be moved to a new location”, and “it is still in place, but will not operate once the Westside Six is open”. It was the only base area lift that RFID gates were not installed at. As the Westside Six was originally scheduled to open December 8th but wasn’t ready, they opened that part of the mountain with this lift after opening November 17th on East Peak. They turned the Westside Six RFID gates sideways and are routing people through them for now.
I expect them to run this lift on busy days as was done with the old triple and evaluate whether it needs to stay or not. While this lift and the new Westside Six are rated for the same capacity of 3000/hr, this lift only ran at 800 feet per minute as the 4.8 second loading interval was not really workable. The new lift should be able to run at full speed with a more comfortable 7.2 second interval so capacity will increase and a backup lift won’t be needed as much.
This lift has not run a single day since the Westside Six opened. There is still no word on whether it will be removed after the season or if it will be relocated anywhere.
