Wasn’t it supposed to be in Massachusetts? The scenery in Utah looks nothing like the Berkshires. And the only Thiokols there don’t have Spacejet skins, though only a skiing nut (like me) would notice. More importantly, there sadly haven’t been wolves in Mass for centuries, with a few exceptions that wandered south from Canada.
lame just LAME! There getting rid of a classic thoinkal LIFT. I don`t get why they did not sale wildcat…When I went to go say good bye to wildcat.. I asked how much a chair was… The chairs sold for $125.00 per chair… When I bought a summit chair from solitude it costed $600.00 for a double! I don`t get why they do not sale any ctec and thoinkals. Like when they removed majestic it sold to big sky, and that lift was old dating back to 1955. That is just cheep If I had the land and money I would buy them but i don`t have much money.I hope I can get something from wildcat.
Unfortunately Thiokol and early CTEC lifts are very rare and no ski area really wants them used because they are difficult to get parts for. There are hundreds of Riblet center pole doubles out there and a lot of spare parts have been salvaged from retired lifts, so it makes them easier to maintain.
Riblet also designed its lifts using a lot of parts that could be picked up at your local NAPA store if need be. No need to spend $500 for a part you can get at NAPA for $15.
couldn’t they just replace the chairs and reuse the drive, CTEC did not really change the enterprise for the years of production. I mean I would argue CTEC lifts use much more common parts than riblets. I have seen many of them using Dopp CTEC grips. Many of the grips on Ellis are Dopp CTEC. To me it seems like the parts are super interchangeable.
There aren’t parts for Thiokol lifts anymore, late model Garaventa-CTEC lifts have almost nothing in common with Thiokol lifts. Wildcat needed replacement, Needles was getting too crowded on weekends. Basin really needed a detachable on the main mountain.
no of course it needed replacement and so does Ellis but what I meant is that I don’t really think there is no use for them being relocated. I know many east coast resorts have re-used early model CTEC chairs but using newer chairs and tower parts. There are huge numbers of CTEC parts and from what I have seen the CTEC chairs seem to be much more reliable than used riblet chairs. While yes they don’t share too much in common I would argue that for a used lift they are a much better choice than a used early model riblet chair.
The drive on this lift isn’t an Enterprise, Middle Bowl is, but not Wildcat. Wildcat also had a lot of hours on it, from it being the main lift prior to 1998. It also rarely ran during its last few years of operation. When it did run, it stopped so much that it was easier to ride up Needles and ski down to the top of Wildcat. I think Powder and Nordic needed some parts for their Thiokols and Sun Valley also needed some to keep their two Thiokols alive.
Does anyone know what the small wood shack is next to the top drive station. It looks like it was removed when the new high speed six was being installed because it got in the way when SB was installing the top lift shack for the new CLD-6.
Naah. The backup drive was a Ford flat-6 engine up top. I believe there were some extra ski patrol supplies stored in that little enclosure you were referring to.
Yes Doppie did make those for Wildcat, Littlecat, and Middlebowl. They wanted to have a “fresh” look on those older lifts for the Winter Olympics, as Snowbasin hosted the downhill competition. They left the “barn” style Stadeli terminals alone on Ms. Becker and Mr. Porky, thankfully.
The movie “Frozen” was filmed on this lift.

It says wonders you have to clarify you’re referring to the 2010 horror film, and not the 2013 Disney movie.

This lift was called “Swisher” in the movie.

The movie was meant to be set in Vermont.

I don’t think we commonly have wolves here in Utah either

Is that carrier that holds the camera and mic custom or just a work carrier?

Hey Carson, Majestic was never really sold to Big Sky. Boyne the parent of both resorts just relocated it.

I’m heartbroken over the removal and scrapping of Wildcat as well, but it was over 40 years old.

Did dopp actually custom-make the enclosures for Snowbasin or were they made in-house?

Pretty sure this Rescue 911 episode occurred on this lift, but I could be wrong.

I remember that. It happened on the old Littlecat double. Which I got a chair from when the scrapped her and sold the chairs :)

That is definitely Snowbasin, but I believe that is actually the old Little Cat lift.
That is quite the rescue!

The scar of the old lift line can still be seen today.
The bottom terminal was about where the maze entrance is on the six pack.
