The restraining bar subject and discussion usually ends up similar to a discussion on Politics or Religion. Many different opinions and theories. A restraining bar should be fully automated and build to a design standard such as the CEN code. A one size fits all restraining bar operated by the passenger has limited success. Passenger s opening the restraining bar to soon or without notice have caused numerous accidents, kids/people falling out etc.

I’m wondering if the insurance situation in Oregon is the reason Mt. Bachelor didn’t sell.

Both Vail and Alterra have self-insurance policies so they could take on the risk of insurance

Does that cover liability though? You would potentially need a pretty large fund to cover all possibilities.

I rode the IFS Cloud cable car just about a year ago and it definitely would have been cooler with glass floors.

So is Big White planning on a replacement of Ridge Rocket then?

Not right away it sounds like. More like upgrading it in sections.

If they succeed it, they might consider the same treatment on Bullet.

Sounds like they are doing an electrical modernization of the lift. It involves replacing almost every electrical thing in the lift. We are waiting pricing from Doppelmayr to start the process on the five lifts that will need it on Blackcomb.

Wouldn’t it be cheaper for a new lift(s), especially on 7th Heaven and Glacier? I seem to remember the costs of upgrading the electrical was the reason Big Red and Fitz quads weren’t relocated.

Red was replaced for capacity and age, but needed the electrical upgrade. Fitz was an unexpected opportunity for the bike park. The modernization is about 20-25% of the cost of replacement. 7th and GE will be age and capacity improvements when they get replaced.
