So what would happen if you tried to spin a lift with that much ice on it?

And the apocalypse. Don’t forget that.

Most of the sheaves won’t spin, so you’ll burn a flat spot on the liners with the rope. With that much ice gluing the rope to the sheaves, it may not even move, so you’ll get repeated drive overcurrents until you realise what’s happening. If it does move, the rope is twice its nominal diameter so it’s entirely possible that it could just walk off the sheaves before it does much else. You get the picture.

It’s from 15 years ago, but the rime is the same.
I’m sure the reason they don’t run NWX’s rope continuously the way they do for Summit is Reasons, but I’ve always wondered. Not that Summit doesn’t rime, but at least the rope and sheaves stay largely bare and the post-storm recovery is 15% easier in theory.

That top picture has some serious tilt on some of the chairs. That would certainly be an interesting ride if you put four people on one side of an eight-place chair!
