- Sun Valley’s proposed Frenchman’s replacement would be a higher capacity detachable quad and River Run would be a six pack with the same capacity as the existing quad.
- Park City’s proposed Cabriolet replacement would include a mid-station with slight angle change.
- From the classifieds: a used Doppelmayr quad for sale in Ontario.
- Marble Mountain, Newfoundland cancels July lift service citing supply chain delays.
- Closed Sugar Loaf, Michigan could reopen as a non-lift recreation area.
- A proposed 30 percent tariff on goods from the EU and 35 percent on Canada could spell trouble for the ski industry.
- A full aerial tram car and bear spray don’t mix well.
- MND and ten associated individuals in France are fined €1.89 million for “late communication of inside information, insider trading and breaches of professional obligations.”

I, for one, don’t think that making lifts 30% more expensive will be a good outcome for the ski industry.

While Trump’s tariffs are indisputably moronic, self destructive, and short sighted (coming from a canadian), lets not forget that the European countries that HTI and Doppelmayr come from (France, Italy, and Austria), had protectionist anti free trade policies again US lift manufacturers such as Yan in 70s,80s, & 90s that basically prevented Yan from selling its products in Western Europe(aside from Spain) that was a factor in its demise, while Poma and Doppelmayr had unfettered access to the US market and copied Yan’s detachable tire driven contour technology. The same thing happened with US rollercoaster manufacturer Arrow in the 80s and 90s in Europe, which factored into its decline as well.

That’s gotta be a crime.

I’m guessing with the River Run 6 that Sun Valley wants the bigger 10 second intervals to cut down on misloads (I’m guessing Lookout 6 will probably be a standard 3,000 pph six pack, though).

Article says it will be 2400 pph, up from 1800 on the existing quad

I did some digging on that quad for sale in Ontario and I believe it’s actually from Mont-Carmel, Quebec. Was sold to Dagmar but never installed.

Interesting find, I had always wondered what happened to the quad Mont Carmel bought in 2011. Considering that the lift listed for sale by Dagmar has a Kissling gearbox, I would guess it would have been a relocation from elsewhere considering that Doppelmayr has used Lohman for gearboxes since the mid 90s. With presumably short length and only six towers, my guess would be that the lift is the old Girouette quad from Chantecler.
I ran the numbers for the stats of the old Girouette quad from Chantecler taking into account the designed line speed, length and capacity. My results ended up with exactly 55 chairs so I’d say it’s a safe assumption that this lift in question originated from Chantecler. The data I used can be found on the 1985 lift construction survey.
