Snowbasin is my favorite. I grew up there. Learned to ski there. Down below is Ogden Valley. Eden, Liberty, Huntsville, my dad’s side of the family settled that area when the Mormon Pioneers came to Utah in the 1800s. Very beautiful and peaceful there. Someday I would like to buy a home there and “re-settle” the area. As for Snowbasin- well- when I last skied there, there were no high speed lifts, just the old Littlecat Double, Wildcat, Middlebowl, and the 2 Stadeli twins- Becker & Porky. Littlecat has since been upgraded to a HSQ and the liftline moved, but the rest still stand and turn, although the new mountain manager for the basin would like to convert Wildcat to a HSQ and also add an additional lift over into the Strawberry area. Good idea for Strawberry, but not so sure about Wildcat. At present it gets used on the weekends or busy days. The mountain manager’s thinking about upgrading WC to a HSQ is that there is a lot of good area served by Wildcat that people are missing out on and that it might encourage them to ski that area more if there is a HSQ serving that area. I just hate to see another great reliable lift like the Thiokol Wildcat be replaced. Middlebowl is a 1979 CTEC but more or less a Thiokol in just about all regards, so I suppose as long as there is at least one of the old lifts there still spinning, I would be happy.
