Instagram Tuesday: Merry Christmas

Every Tuesday, I feature my favorite Instagram photos from around the lift world.

We understand everyone, including us, has been anxiously awaiting The Gondola opening and we apologize for not being more transparent about its status. This project has been a complex undertaking and the last thing we wanted to do was provide our guests with inaccurate information. However, we understand that without us supplying the most accurate information we do have, misinformation is out there. Going forward we are committed to providing you with daily updates on The Gondola by 2pm MT. Our acceptance testing began yesterday. This process requires going through all of the safety and operating systems of the lift. Yesterday, we went through our electrical and tower safety circuits. Today we are working through terminal testing. We anticipate doing the dynamic load testing tomorrow. This is a brand new lift system for the U.S. and we are one of only three in the country, which is why our testing process is taking a little longer. We are optimistic about opening on Tuesday, just in time for Christmas, but we do have to complete these extensive tests first. Thank you for your patience as we complete this process and we will update you tomorrow on our progress. We look forward to riding The Gondola with you soon!

Copper missed their x-mas opening with the American Flyer too. Not a great look for the first year of the IKON in the Denver area.

Does anyone know why these lifts have been so delayed this year?

There are quite a few other new lifts that have yet to open:
      -Snowbowl Express at Stratton
      -Promenade at Catamount
      -High Country at Waterville Valley
      -Quad at Frost Fire
      -South Ridge at Killington
      -ATV Poma at Killington
      -Green at Magic Mountain
      -Expert at Vallee du Parc

Almost all in the Northeast, which got a lot of early season snow.

I was at Killington on 12/8 and 12/9. For South Ridge, there was still a lot of physical work (finishing the terminals, installing the haul rope) to be done, despite full snow coverage. It seems that they just ran out of time.

Frost Fire’s lift is complete guessing they don’t have enough snow.

“Due to contractual obligations the opening of the 2018/2019 Outdoor Recreation Area is temporarily delayed, this includes skiing, snowboarding and tubing. Updates will be made as we continue to gather more information.”

Don’t forget the “Presidential Bahn” Gondola at Bretton Woods (at least at Eldora someone told them the name sounded dumb so they changed it…)

And given the huge amount of lifts that were ordered for this season, there is only so much that can be done in such a short period of time. nothing to be concerned about though. If they don’t get it in this season, there will be plenty of other seasons following.
