New Lift Coming to Kelly Canyon

For the first time in decades, Kelly Canyon is getting a new chairlift. The fixed grip triple chair is the first new lift announced in the state of Idaho for 2021. The lift will service new terrain above the current lift-served summit with an exact location to be announced later.

With six complete lift projects and multiple retrofits already confirmed, Salt Lake City-based Skytrac is gearing up for one of its busiest construction seasons ever.

Kelly Canyon will run a contest on social media to name the new lift.

I am happy for Kelly Canyon but it will be sad to see such vintage lifts go. Hopefully they find another use for them.

At least they’re keeping the only operating Hjorth lift. Big Sky is still operating a 1955 Riblet from Brighton.

Eh, technically. They replaced the last of Little Thunder’s 1950s parts when they moved it to Big Sky. So this lift is more 1970s, designwise.

The Vista Cruiser at Mt. Spokane is the most complete surviving chair from the pre-1957 generation Riblets.

Perhaps Superior Tramway or some other company can use them for spare parts to keep other riblets of the era operating

Kelly’s express could pay homage to the new lift
