Sommet Morin Heights Announces New Quad

Quebec resort group Les Sommets will build its fourth new lift in six years next summer at Sommet Morin Heights. The group has been investing heavily of late with four of its five mountains receiving new chairlifts since 2019. The Sommet Express opened at Sommet Saint-Sauveur in 2019, La Laurentienne debuted at Sommet Gabriel in 2022 and Apollo will launch this season at Sommet Olympia. Next up will be Sommet Morin Heights.

Morin Heights’ new lift will be called Élévation with the exact alignment to be announced. The planned vertical of 525 feet suggests it will replace Dynastar, a 1980s quad which operated previously at Ski Wentworth, Nova Scota. Élévation will feature 91 chairs moving at 450 feet per minute and will open for the 2024-25 ski season.

Good news ! I’ glad to hear Les Sommets will invest in Morin Heights lifts. The new lift will be in the Rivière Simon or Dynastar area. I would have wished a HSS for Dynastar because of the huge crowds on saturday/sundays on this lift. Dynastar serves the best trails at Morin Heights. Rivière Simon only gives access to 3 trails, so I ask me if a CLF4 at this place could cause the trails to be overcrowded. At the same time, I think Rivière Simon is one of the worst lift at Morin Heights and more globaly in the Sommets. It’s running very very slow, is very very long and have more rust than any other lift at Morin Heights.

Same, I think not only due to the crowds, but also the other lifts are old and only triples, they should do a HSQ or even a HSS. Still, that means the other resorts (Olympia and Gabriel) will feel left out as they have only fixed-grips.

I don’t think Gabriel needs a detach quad since it is relatively short lift lines, the 4FG are making a great job. A CLD at Olympia would have been nice on the long Apollo or C chairs, since the ride is quite long.

Yes, exactly what I was thinking. Also, I would prefer them to put it on Apollo, and add lighting to Terzi and a few other trails so other places are accessible at night.

Out of curiosity, why do you think they replaced the Accès chair with a Navette? It’s to bad considering the great sous-bois they have on the backcountry.

I didn’t go to that specific area, but I think it is likely for operation costs, as it really just serves 1 green trail to a parking lot.
