With the Blue Lift gone at Ober, I wonder if skiing is now completely lost to that side of the resort. The Alpine Way trail still appears on the map, but the Scenic Chair, now labeled Sky Village, doesn’t seem to ever carry skiers. Can’t imagine that would change with the new Quad either as they ran the Scenic Chair to foot traffic in the winter.

The new Scenic lift does have a mid-station so at least in theory they could load skiers to there. That would require two separate loading areas at the bottom though.

I believe the mid-station is used for the alpine slide. Not sure if it operates in the winter though.

From what I’ve noticed from Boyne building bubble lifts, they have been gradually shifting from building large parking barns for the chairs to enclosing the terminals of the lifts and storing the bubble chairs there.

Was there anything said recently about building a lift on that lift line you have marked and unloading at the top of Lone Tree? That area would be so much more skiable with a lift on that alignment. I know there were people here saying Six Shooter should have been relocated to that alignment, but I haven’t paid much attention to Big Sky news.

Moonlight Basin cut a line on that alignment before they went bankrupt, and it supposedly remains in Boyne’s long-term plans, but they haven’t put any timeline on it. Apparently, there’s also a plan for another lift and more terrain further west on the Moonlight side (right on this map).
It’s a shame, because I really believe if this area had single-lift access, it would be among the best lift pods in the country.

Moonlight not only cut a liftline, but also partially installed parts of a chairlift as well. There are a couple towers before the end of the Horseshoe trail, and a kind of yellow-ish. I’m not sure what type of lift it was supposed to be, but I remember seeing them when I last visited in March 2022.

Any chance it could have been the old Shedhorn or Southern Comfort lift?

Sorry. I just saw that Dakota is the old Southern Comfort. Happy to see these old HP lifts still going strong.

@Tucker from what I can recall it was supposed to be another 6 pack like 6 shooter.

AZ Snowbowl seems to have had a labelling error with their telemix on the new map. Always a fun part of fall to see the new maps be released.

That is just the number of people that can ride it with almost weekly wind holds. /s

when the old Agassiz triple was due for replacement, I hoped Snowbowl would add a HS4 or 6 from the upper lodge to the old midway. Then run a fixed grip triple or quad from the bottom of Lava to somewhere near the old summit, which was about 150′ vert higher than the current summit.
Why? Snowmaking now exists, so the old constraints that led to the old lift layout really don’t apply. You would create a intermediate friendly exit from the upper base, while also creating a lapable pod of upper mountain advanced bowl terrain and steep glades. And a brand new fixed grip would handle wind about as well as the old triple, which really wasn’t on wind (or ice) hold often at all. All justified by the slightly raised upper station. With a new, better cat track starting from higher you would gain a few bowl runs that are currently hike-to.
Obviously MCP didn’t do this, and I can’t blame them… Half the justification for the current gondola is foot traffic in seasons when wind isnt as much of a problem.

I remember seeing a few times where they pulled the gondolas off the line and just ran it with chairs and that allowed a higher wind tolerance. Wish they could have set it back further at the top to prevent the massive 80 ft breakover.

Yeah the breakover is a bit much. From the way the wind blows, there’s literally nothing taller than it until the Sierras.
I’m sure the fact that the triple was below treetops almost until the bullwheel kept it open many windy days.
