Sunday River Accelerates Merrill Hill Construction

Sunday River Resort’s 15th chairlift will be installed next summer, one year earlier than originally planned. The Doppelmayr fixed grip triple will service Merrill Hill, a community of 23 home sites located between South Ridge and Aurora Peak. The lift will load near the existing Dream Maker run and service three new trails. Nine of the lots surrounding the lift remain available for sale.

Merrill Hill will become the third lift addition in five years for Sunday River following construction of the Spruce Peak triple in 2017 and the Alera Group Competition T-Bar in 2019. Parent company Boyne Resorts also plans to add Doppelmayr lifts at Big Sky Resort and Loon Mountain in 2021.

Looks like the narrow strip across the top of the lot would be the driveway.

Interesting that they would decide to install a triple rather than a double. I would expect that they would only let the homeowners use this lift so there would be no need for a high capacity lift, like the “Rivers Edge” double at Loon. Hell, they might not even put this lift on the map but since it services some terrain I guess a triple is probably more suited for the area.

Boyne recently installed triples for real estate lifts at Big Sky. As to whether the lift is open to the public really depends on the resort and the development agreements. Sometimes, particularly on public land, the permit requires the lift to be open to the public. At Big Sky, all the real estate lifts are open to the public (except The Yellowstone Club ones). The Rivers Edge lift at Loon is a private lift only open to homeowners. If the lift were placed on the map and open to the public, it would likely be Lift 16.

Lift 16 already exists: Lower Sundance Surface Lift #16.
        It will be Lift 19

A triple would allow a parent to ride with two kids or two parents to ride with four kids across two chairs.

Based on their market analysis they may not need a quad (1 parent + 3 kids or 2 + 6), or the additional HP & clearing isn’t worth it.

This is great and all, but they need to really get around to replacing Barker.
