I wonder where the Sunrise Park chondola will be run. I think it would make an ideal lift for replacing Cyclone (which was 8,000 feet long) or Fort Apache (5,280 feet long).

Isn’t Sunrise experiencing severe financial trouble? Maybe the US Department of the Interior would pay for the lift?

Are they even open? I’ve heard reports that only the bunny hill is open which is WAY short on their goal of opening at least one top to bottom run for the first day of the season. Their snow report is from March both online and recorded message. No one answering phones. So sad yet no surprise.
As to our tax dollars paying for a lift? No thanks. But, that is something the tribe is floating. That said, given that this ski area is owned by a tribal “government” and not a private company, which would normally have some sort of tax burden, I have never understood why this place would be in financial trouble.

That looks horrible, and it is great that no one was hurt. The entire northeast was a mess today. It is absolutely crazy that Florida was warmer than Vermont during the day. The upcoming freeze will at least allow snowmaking, but it will also make all of the slush that didn’t melt a sheet of ice. The next two days are typically two of the top ten busiest days for North American ski mountains, and they are going to be brutal for the east.

I remember seeing that same video at Loon Mountain’s lift ops training in 2000 & 2001. It was a VHS. Nice find! Happy New Year!
