Replacing Milly before Great Western? Seems like an odd choice, unless I’m missing something.

Maybe because of the Solbright traffic? 🤔

didn’t they do away with the combined solbright ticket?

Correct, SolBright day tickets are no longer sold, but with an Ikon Pass, you can just use one of your Brighton days.

Brighton announced a month ago that they are expanding their night skiing operations to Milly this season, the Milly pod is very popular but there is only one lift to serve all that terrain.
Great western overlaps a lot with runs off Snake, which overlaps with Crest, which overlaps with majestic. Milly stands alone, so upgrading it for better capacity & longer night hours improves skier circulation more than an upgraded Great western.
Boyne has also shown an affinity for refurbishing detachables and reinstalling them elsewhere, they can definitely do that with Milly, and definitely not with Great Western. If they’re trying to stretch their dollars as far as possible, Milly is more logical than GW, even though it’s a very vintage lift in need of replacement.
Crowd flow between solitude and Brighton is minimal, even though the ikon pass is effectively a ticket to both, they don’t have the visitation to have hordes of people going between the two at any given time. Milly and Summit (Solitude) lifts are popular in their own right, but it’s not like there’s a horde of skiers at the bottom of Milly at 3:30 pm trying to get back to Solitude, or Vice Versa.
Unlike the Alta bird connection at sugarloaf pass, there isn’t even a ticket scanner or attendant at solbright, it is merely an opening in the two resorts’ boundary line, maybe ~10 ft wide.

I’m with you AC, I’m a little confused by it too. At some point GW will need an age related replacement, but GW or Milly lines have never been bad when I’ve skied Brighton. I’ve been during the holiday week in a post Ikon world a couple times and both lines were around half the Snake Creek line. Backbone is also a bottleneck, so I don’t think adding more skiers to the top at Milly is a good idea.
I’m probably missing something, but I’ll be curious what the planning documents show.
Donald, Solbright is typically empty. The gate is a little hard to find on the Brighton side if you aren’t watching for it and it’s flat back to Solitude. It’s not like the Altabird connections, particularly the one at Sugarloaf pass.

The perfect replacement for the Milly quad would be a 74 Yan center post double running up to just above Milly Bowl and a 69 Riblet center post double landing just above the SolBright trail. Keep down the number of skiers so the snow lasts and give the SolBright people their own lift to not clog up Milly.

Absolutely insane, that’s way too much capacity. Milly is clearly the perfect place to drop a couple American Steel and Wire singles, and make the whole pod skier only. Delete all groomed trails. Hand shoveled lift ramps only.

I got a copy of the decision notice, the new Milly will be a six pack. Same alignment.

What would happen with the current quad?

Brighton should at least relocate the quad as its age is relatively young, either replace Majestic or GW.

Tremblant should stop focusing on real estate, real estate, and real estate, and focus on creating new trails (Mainly at Soleil and on Timber Ridge). Soleil , Duncan and TGV are also good to be replaced with six packs. I wonder what they will do about the Timber.
