Caberfae Peaks Announces Green Mountain Expansion

Caberfae, Michigan will build a Doppelmayr triple in 2027, servicing several new beginner trails on Green Mountain. The project follows construction of similar Doppelmayr triples on North Peak in 2016 and East Peak in 2022. This new lift will bridge a progression gap between the learning area and more difficult terrain on East Peak. “We are thrilled to begin this terrain expansion,” said mountain manager Pete Meyer. “Our skiers and riders will now have a dedicated, lift-served area to build confidence and skills before moving on to larger, more challenging slopes.”

Construction is already underway with planning, lift line clearing and grading completed in 2025, foundation and snowmaking installation planned for 2026 and steel erection following in 2027. The new terrain and Green Mountain Triple are expected to debut for the 2027-28 ski season.

For those who don’t know the area, Cabby is the closest major resort from Detroit and Grand Rapids, meaning it can get REALLY busy on weekends (especially on East Peak as it the beginner lift and the main base lift.) This should do a great job of thinning out crowds on Smiling Irishman as that run is borderline dangerous during peak hours. I think the long time hope for the resort is to keep expanding east, as the resort used to have several t-bars and rope tows way east of the base lodge. As the money thinned out all of these old lifts were slowly pulled out by the old owners and eventually became the size it is today. The Meyer family runs a really great operation at Cabby and every year they make big improvements to the resort!

Solid addition. Looks like about 170 ft vert based on the elevations shown and comparing to East Peak vertical.

Nice addition, the carpet up to East Peak is a big step and it should help with crowds on East Peak chair. Anyone know if it’ll have night skiing like the rest of the resort?

Will the new Green Mountain trails also include snowmaking coverage similar to East Peak, or will that be expanded later on?
