Where is Lagoon’s 3-CLF Sky ride? It was built bu Roebling. The strange thing I can’t find the tensoning. Every time I ride it. I know for a fact that a lift has to have some sort of tensioning. Unless the lift is a v shape where the chair weight tensions it. The sky ride is like Park city’s Flat Iron except with no mid stations. The restraining bars also lock too.
It’s a good possibility that this lift is the old wildcat double. Here’s a picture of the lift the summer it was removed. If you look at the Mountain Green ski area on Google Earth (41°09’54.0″N 111°43’42.3″W) the bottom terminal and towers look the same.
Some of the chairs from the Wildcat double were sold off. There are a few Wildcat chairs at this rental shop in Huntsville, including a Thiokol double chair (could be the old Little Cat from Snowbasin, or Sundown from Powder). There is still a possibility that the chairlift an Mountain Green is the former Wildcat double, considering that the Wildcat double was significantly longer than the chairlift at Mountain Green.
Mountain Green/Brushy Canyon ski hill appears to be operating. Either that, or dumped a bunch of snow on their hill for no reason. The ski hill can be seen if you look east from where Trapper’s Loop intersects 226.
I am presuming that is a LCC gondola. I like the idea of it, as the traffic in the area is a mess. However, I think your bottom terminal is unfeasible as it would require crossing numerous private houses. There is an existing LCC parking lot at the intersection of UT-210/UT-209 that could more affordably be expanded, so I think the lift would start there. I also think you are overestimating the number of turns the lift would have. Every turn is an added expense, so I presume those would be kept to an absolute minimum with one probably each at Snowbird and Alta coupled with a load/unload station.
I was looking on Google Earth (again) and found a ski lift near Fairview and Mt. Pleasant. Google listed it as “old ski lift.” Does anyone have any information on this lift? It looks to be either a Hall or Thiokol. Are they operating?

I don’t know about you guys but I think Utah is the most bland state for lifts the last Riblet was removed in 2010 we have 1 Hall lift left and those days are numbered the last SLI was removed in 2011 there’s just not any older style lifts left in Utah. No high speed Poma lifts no T-bars and just not any lifts left that interest me besides the many Ctec’s/Thiokol’s, Yan’s and the one whole Hall lift we have left. I know I’m going to get ridiculed for this but whatever.
The Doppelmayr center pole doubles at Snowbird are kind of unique in North America, though, Snowbird has talked about replacing those lifts for a long time now.
Don’t forget about the Poma double lift at The Beav too.
Snowbasin still has two Stadeli triples. Snowbird with the Dopelmeyer doubles. Park City(canyons side) with their 4 vertical foot Thiokol double(Powderhorn from Solitude). Alta has that odd Yan transfer and two Yan doubles.
I’m sure there are more interesting chairs in UT. Personally I liked the old Brighton Majestic with it’s early style Riblet towers.
Well yes there are some awesome lifts according to the CTEC timeline and a couple of others. But what about the Riblets that ruled Park west and Brighton. the SLI’s and the YAN’s that ruled park city too.
SLI chairs are becoming rare on their own and Riblets are as common as dirt in the rest of the US. There are more than enough cool lifts on their own here from CTEC. For Yan chairs Deer Valley has Mayflower and Viking, etc. Also Alta which has Wildcat and Albion(for now). There is also Wilbere at Snowbird for cool 1970s Doppelmayer center poles.
I was bored tonight so I present to you all: The One Wasatch tour (the best existing routes I could find to ski One Wasatch quasi/not legally) (note: this is a hypothetical, I don’t recommend doing this)
The cottonwoods are actually shockingly easy. From Alta, ride Supreme and hike (1,200 feet, up 120 vertical) to Point Supreme. From there, it’s basically all downhill to Brighton.
To get back to LCC, ride Summit at Solitude and traverse to the edge of the resort. From there, hike (600 feet, 170 vertical) to the edge of Grizzly Gulch, and drop in and ski back to Alta.
Park City to Solitude is shockingly nearly all downhill, however you’d have to cross Route 190 twice.
Brighton to Park City looks impossible and is definitely the worst of these, but it’s only about 350 vertical of hiking all in.
I would love to if someone invites me. Last I heard chairs were going on the lower lift and rope was still being pulled on the upper. Of all the winters to build a lift in the Wasatch, they picked a good one.

Thinking we’ll have a new Needles, and John Paul lifts by then? Maybe Strawberry, but given how limited Strawberry gets used, it could possibly still be around.. even at 30+ years.. Becker and Porky will have long since been replaced by then.. Littlecat Express might still be there…. Yeah it gets used heavily but still..
I think everyone who lives in Utah is happy especially the resort operators because that means they’ll be able to get upgrades for lifts in. As for Snowbasin holding the downhill olympics i’d imagine they will but as for their infrastructure here’s what i imagine will happen.
Needles will be replaced with a newer faster and more capacity gondola because of all the hours it gets during the summer and winter. I’d imagine they will choose Doppelmayr because they manufactured both needles and strawberry. on the off chance that they do choose LPOA i’d imagine they’ll go with a 6/8 chondola.
Strawberry i would hope gets replaced with an 8 pack chairlift. the reason i say this is because they could build a 4000 PPH lift with slatted backrests for wind resistance as well as bubbles and heated seats with bubbles auto closing and locking as to make it more wind resistant. also 8 pack chairs with bubbles on them makes them heavier too which makes for even more wind resistance. But if it were me personally i’d go bubbles instead of slatted back rests because of the bubbles are closed then they improve efficiency. Top Drive obviously since a top drive lift is more environmentally efficient. I would also make the lift line more mellow to make for less wind closures.
For Porky and Becker, Becker will be replaced this coming summer with a LPO HSQ. i’d imagine porky will follow a few years after.
Littlecat, Wildcat, Middle Bowl, and Demoisy leave them as is. Littlecat does get slammed but only in the mornings. it’s not long enough and has enough capacity that it doesn’t warrant a 6 pack. For MBX, DMX, and Wildcat, I would maybe just add Direct Drive as to make them move faster if that’s even possible
@RYAN, it doesn’t make much sense tho, especially if the wind comes from behind. I guess Express du Sud and Tempête Express at Québec resorts owned by RCR aren’t practical as well.
As SB has had their last 3 lifts built by LP, don’t be surprised if they decide to go with a LP to replace Needles when the time comes. Brand loyalty doesn’t mean much anymore.
A utah news station posted an article today titled “have you ever been stuck on a ski lift?” Likely in response to the 2 incidents that have taken place this week at Heavenly as well as Winter Park.

It *may* be the old Snowland ski hill that operated until 1980 or so… it certainly matches the location.

No, those towers are definitely American Cableways or Western Lift. Hjorth had very similar designs, but the towers weren’t the same.

The lift at Aspen Hills was relocated there in 1980. It came used from the defunct Frontierland in Wyoming, but got new tower columns. So it actually is a Hjorth, but Hjorth used Hunziker’s design for its lifts. Other than the mining tram, I don’t think Park City ever had Riblet lifts. Park West had five Riblet doubles.
