Mathematically, it has to include Vail, or else someone’s estimating skills are way off. The NSAA reported 27.9 million skier visits in the Rocky Mountain Region (CO, MT, ID, WY, NM, UT). Utah reported 7.1 million, so there is 20.8 million left for the other five states. Vail’s five in Colorado combine for more than 5.5 million annually, so excluding Vail Resorts from CO would imply that MT, WY, NM, and ID only combined for less than 500 thousand skier visits.

Peter, Just wanted to say thank you for this informative and fascinating site and the great job you do. The bull wheel drop was so cool to watch. I am now so interested in area ops thanks to you. Please keep up the great work and know that your work is greatly appreciated and admired by the community in general.

The experience Le Massif is offering sounds very similar to the “Astra Lumina” experience that Anakeesta Tennessee is currently offering. Anakeesta’s offering does not take place while on their lift, it is all through a hiking trail through the woods. The experience is very unique, and surprisingly enjoyable. Very interested to see how Le Massif’s offering stacks up, especially while riding the lifts. This has the opportunity to be extremely popular.

Glad to see yet another lost ski area reopen…even as a private hill.

A private ski area with 2 outdated Riblets? Don’t get me wrong I love Riblets, but this just seems like a plan that has failure written all over it. Why would rich people ski an area with an old triple and double chair, when there is a mountain with 3 high speed quads and better terrain 5 minutes away? I would like to see it reopen as an affordable family hill, they would likely have more success. I have skied over 30 ma and pa hills (including Deer Mtn 7 years ago), and most of them are successful and use creative ways to stay successful.
