I’m not familiar with the topography of Lost Trails, but do they plan to replace all 3 lifts individually or replace all 3, if they are redundant, with a single detachable quad?

4 is a completely separate area, that would be its own chair. 1 & 2 could be a single lift, it would probably require a little earthwork around the base but absolutely possible.

I hope Lost Trails decision to invest in high speed lifts doesn’t end up like Fun Spot America, GA.

or Mount Ascutney, VT when they built North Peak Express in 2000. At least that lift found a new home in NH. Can’t say whether AF1 will find a new home or not, hopeful it does!

Technically 2 serves the same terrain and you can already ski down to it if 1 is down or busy, but 1 & 2 are very separate alignments. I do not see the need for 1 to be HS a fixed quad would be better option as it is a short lift. A lift from the top of 3 to the top of 1 area would be good addition as it would keep people coming back to the lodge from the north part of the mountain off a rope tow.

Don’t ruin Lost Trail with fast lifts. Old Bannock from Targhee is still going strong as Chair 4

is there even enough traffic to justify high speed lifts?

I’ve only skied Lost Trail on a powder day Saturday, so I don’t know what their normal business is like, but no. The fixed grip lifts hold up to the crowd fine. Maybe on a holiday? But even then, compared to other places I’ve skied I’m sure the fixed grip lifts will be fine.

Lost Trail must be looking at free secondhand detachables from Yellowstone Club, right? The upfront cost sounds about right, but I wonder whether high-speed lifts can drive enough extra revenue to pay for the increased maintenance and eventual replacement. Lost Trail is a long way from much of anything.
