I don’t tweet so I’ll answer the questions about the new bottom of A here.
The developer of the Born Club actually likes A-lift the way it is and has been using it as a selling point. It’s also far from our busiest lift so any replacement will most likely be well into the future.
Just because we used Skytrac last time doesn’t mean we can’t also buy a Doppelmayr terminal. Gotta spread the love :) You can see from out install list that we’ve bought from all sorts of companies over the years (though oddly enough not from Riblet, which was installing lifts all over the state the years we were getting started).

Mammoth mountain has got to have some very deep pockets, because the Panorama Gondola is still state of the art and nicer than most other Gondolas in North America. Why wouldnt Mamoth replace a few of their dozen outdated fixed grips with those funds to both detachable, and modern Dopp fixed grips, instead of this wasteful replacement for the gondola.

It’s worth noting that the projects shown in this plan are *only* those relating to the development of Main Lodge. Many projects that are confirmed to be part of their master plan are not shown in here. Lifts slated for upgrades or new installation that aren’t detailed include 2, 7, 12, 14, 15, 16, 25, a HSQ relief lift for 2 (a new chair 36), an extension of the village gondola to the top of 15, a gondola running from the top of 15 to the top of 5 (potentially a second stage for a gondola conversion of 15), a tram from the top of 5 to the summit, and a platter from the top of 9 to the top of Dave’s Run.

The problem with the Panorama Gondola is overcrowding due to scenic riders on busy days. They usually give scenic riders their own cabin without skiers or boarders and they skip the normal line.

Late 1990s isn’t that old. Do we know if Alterra has ordered the replacements for 1 and 16 yet?

1 and 16 have already been announced for 2023. It’s up in the air what comes after those. I’d guess maybe a 2 upgrade and relocation of the old lift to replace something like 25, 12, or 14.

Regarding Mammoth: I’m curious if anyone knows about this, or if I’m just imagining things…but is there a reason besides just redevelopment that Mammoth would be pushing the bases of multiple chairlifts off what would become private land onto land that is still NFS land? Does this reduce their liability?

It shouldn’t. While the ownership of the land *under* the lift may change, the ownership of said lift won’t and the operator still has liability for what may or may not happen on it.

Worrying update I heard from lift ops today regarding the construction of Game Creek. Apparently, Game Creek is missing a part and if it does not arrive in the next 8 days the lift might possibly not be finished this year.

Anything that comes from a lift operator, ski instructor or ski patroller should be taken with heavy skepticism :)

What Peter said. Having been involved in the construction of multiple lifts over the years, there are definitely parts that will hold up progress, but as soon as they show up progress resumes. Lift construction by its nature is very much (to quote Mr Incredible) ‘We’ll get there when we get there!’
