What does modernizing entail and what’s the motivation to do so? Upgrading drive, controls and safety systems is pretty common for reliability reasons but they do not appear to be part of the project at Snow Trails. I’m struggling to see the value of replacing a bull wheel and counterweight..

The previous fly over arrangement caused skires to ski off to the left only as the chair clearance prevented them from going right, the new arrangement is a bullwheel unload allows both.
Ultimately piecemeal modernizing (Phased lift replacement in Skytrac lingo) allows the capital outlay to match the ability of the resort to afford it; In other words, a phased replacement lets the resort improve the performance and/or the reliability of a lift without the large capital outlay of a new lift.

To piggyback off of this, we delt with a lot of kids trying to be cool and ski off to the right, which presented its own issues. Also, with the previous counterweight set up, on busy days when the chair was fully loaded and stopped it bounced quite a bit.
All around this will be a great improvement for the area.
