Ruby Mountains. This proposed small ski area wood have little impact on the Ruby Mountains in general. Even from a visual standpoint most of that area has burned and there are hardly any trees left. The ski runs would pretty much cutting brush.

Elko, Spring Creek have become sprawling communities over the last 10 years. 3K acres at that location would have no impact in the big picture of the Ruby Mountains. The proposed ski area is not a slam dunk for snow. If Snowmaking happens it may have more impact??

The Vail tragedy of 1976 deserves more attention. This journalists struggled far to long to uncover the facts, and the story remains underdiscussed. These events, tragic though they are, should be openly examined and taught to future lift builders, mechanics, and operators. Discussing what went wrong, we learn how to prevent similar disasters and understand why we look for and maintain this machinery the correct way.

Investigative Report- “Weeks before the accident, Workers repaired brakes in 2 outer wires on the track rope” “Those fixes were not documented until after the accident”

Good points, Brent. But thankfully in this day and age, we have sites like this one, as well as publications like SAM and others to share information in the industry to help one another. I hope someday Peter might add a detailed/topic specific forum to this site, like there was on the old skilifts.org website to better share and discuss topics of interest, Or maybe Peter can create a new forum specific site while keeping this one more for blog type articles that he does a great job at. He’s got the journalism talent and web site stuff down, and he loves his line of work as a liftie/mech obviously.

taking bets on if Eagle and Silverload replacements get approved this time around :) I hope they do. As much fuss as some make about Vail Resorts and PCMR, I do think they do a good job trying to provide a top notch experience, and I think they do put a good effort forward to try to be good neighbors and community supporters and care providers to the land and area. but I am an optimist more often than not.
